How to Identify if You Have A Problem With Your Cold Room

The job of a cold room is to maintain the premium condition of products. Used to store everything from food produce to medicines, whatever business you are in, if you’re a cold room owner you should be taking the necessary action to ensure your cold room is in optimum condition.

Often cold rooms are in constant use, making it even more important to make sure consistent cold room maintenance is in place – as regular checking reduces the risk of major problems occurring. Here we list some common cold room problems to look out for to ensure that your cold room is always performing at its best.

Cold Room Doors

Cold room doors are crucial. Without one, it would be impossible to keep the temperature at the exact level required, which is why they need to be given regular servicing. A problem could appear here, as a wrongly fitted cold room door will require more work from the cold room fridge itself to maintain the required temperature, thus costing you more money as a result. This can also lead to a full breakdown of the cold room and further expenses paid. To ensure this isn’t the case, check the sliding door track (if applicable) to ensure that is closes the door fully. A check on a hinged cold room door is also important to ensure that the hinge still opens and closes the door properly.

At MTCSS we provide replacement furniture for both hinged and sliding door cold rooms, as well as fitting them. So, if your door isn’t closing properly, you can be back up and running in no time.

Cold Room Door Handles

When examining your cold room door for problems, it is also imperative that you also check the cold room door handle, as they are undoubtedly going to be getting regular use when entering or exiting your cold room. The handles are different on hinged cold room doors and sliding cold room doors, so it is important that you check for different problems on each. On a hinged door, a poorly fitted handle may not latch correctly, thus effecting the seal which could mean the door doesn’t close properly. On a sliding door, you would be looking to see if the handle works correctly as this could affect the seal and could possibly become a health and safety issue. MTCSS have a wide range of spares & parts available on our e-commerce shop to help combat this!

Cold Room Door Gaskets

Another regular check that you should be making when assessing your cold room, is looking to see if the gaskets are working correctly.

A cold room door gasket is a piece of equipment that fills the space between surfaces in a cold room to prevent any gaps occurring that could potentially cause a leakage. Ensuring that events like this are checked for is a vital aspect of keeping the cold room at the required temperature. Routine checks on gaskets should be done to certify that there are no tears, gaps, or any potential issue that would prevent the door from sealing correctly. If this is the case, then MTCSS has a wide range of gaskets on offer.

Storage

Identifying problems with your cold room doesn’t always have to mean spotting a fault in the equipment. If you are starting to expand your business and need to house more products, it’s still important to maintain easy access and safety. Sturdy shelving can help to achieve this – keeping products separate and maximising floor space. MTCSS offer a range of ancillaries, including cold room shelving, with our team of experts providing full installation.
