Outdoor Chiller Cold Rooms – Weymouth Quay
Challange
Dorset Council redeveloped the quay to improve facilities for the local fishing industry, requiring outdoor cold rooms where fishermen could store freshly caught fish for collection by resellers and distributors. MTCSS was challenged with designing and installing cold rooms that could withstand the quay’s extreme winds and harsh conditions.
Solution
MTCSS designed and installed a multi-compartment of five temperature-controlled chiller rooms on the quay, tailored to the needs of fishermen and resellers while withstanding extreme coastal conditions.
Chiller Rooms:
- Welfare Area: 4950 mm × 5250 mm × 3150 mm
- Fish Box Store: 6100 mm × 3640 mm × 3150 mm
- Catch Store: 4950 mm × 5250 mm × 3150 mm
- Bait Store: 4950 mm × 5250 mm × 3150 mm
- Ice Store: 5100 mm × 5250 mm × 3150 mm (Including 2 Ziegra Ice Makers)
All rooms were built with 150 mm Kingspan insulated panels, white food-safe internal finishes, XL Forte external finishes, fibreglass resin roofs, floorless designs, J&E Hall condensing units, Guntner evaporators and 3 hinged, 2 sliding durable doors, ensuring efficiency, hygiene, and resilience in harsh weather conditions.

Outcome
Dorset Council is now able to efficiently support the day-to-day needs of local fishermen, providing secure cold storage that makes the transfer of fresh fish to resellers easier, safer, and more reliable. The new facilities ensure the integrity and safety of the catch while streamlining the distribution process.

Cold Room Refurbishment at Steve’s Family Butchers

From the beginning I found Gem’s customer service fantastic, out of all of the companies we spoke to for quotes she was the most responsive and attentive. Even when we were still finalising and it wasn’t confirmed if we were proceeding with MTCSS yet, she was always great with keeping in contact to see if we needed anything, and very responsive with emails, and also phone calls.
Andy and Nathan, have been great throughout the entire process. Both have been on hand for any queries we have had and very responsive again to all forms of communication. Everything has been handled promptly and efficiently both before, during and after the build. Any questions we have had they have always gotten back to us with an answer very quickly.
The gentlemen who completed the install here on site, where very friendly and mindful of business operations while completing work. Each day they would check in with who was here in the morning to explain what they would be doing, what access they required, and asked if and how this might affect our operations or customers. Again, they were very clear and open with communication and was happy to help find solutions when we had issues with the shelving.
