Monoblock Refrigeration
Temperature ranges:
• Walk-in chillers +0°C to +8°C
• Walk-in freezers -10°C to -20°C
Ideal for:
• Small to medium capacity cold rooms
- Chiller cold rooms and freezer cold rooms
- Areas with limited external space
- Well-ventilated areas
- Rooms which may be moved in the future
What is a monoblock refrigeration unit?
Monoblock refrigeration units are a cold room refrigeration system that fits through the wall or through the ceiling, within a cold room. They are self-contained systems which are ideal for use in confined and well-ventilated spaces, or as part of a walk-in cold room to optimise storage.
Benefits of Monoblocks
- Simple plug-and-play systems
As a simple, self-contained option, there is minimal fuss when it comes to installation and maintenance. The systems are self-evaporating, so there is no need to plumb into existing drainage or soakaways to your walk-in cold room.
- Ideal for switching on and off
If your cold room isn’t required to run throughout the year, simply turn the integral unit’s power off and power back on when you would like to use the room again.
- Easy to remove
If you might need to move or remove your walk-in chiller or freezer rooms in the future, you can simply turn off the unit, release the holding fixings, and remove the unit, making it easy to transport and reinstall.
Temperature ranges :
• Walk-In Chillers +0°C to +8°C
• Walk-In Freezers -10°C to -40°C
Ideal for :
• Chiller rooms and freezer cold rooms
• Medium to large scale cold rooms
• Bespoke operating requirements and parameters
• External cold rooms
Split Refrigeration Systems
What is a split refrigeration system?
Split refrigeration systems consist of two units: one that sits within the chiller/freezer cold room (the evaporator) and another unit that is external to the building (the condenser).
Split refrigeration systems are ideal for external use, medium to large cold rooms, and areas that have poor ventilation.
Benefits of split refrigeration systems
- Peace of mind included
It can also come with back-up refrigeration, with full assurance and compliance for accreditations and audits. Along with the peace of mind, there’s a full contingency in place for any failures and your products are continuously protected.
- Bespoke options
BMI refrigeration systems can be made bespoke to suit and ‘talk to’ any building management system in place.
- Can be monitored remotely
Compatible with remote management systems, you can manage and monitor the units remotely, adjust the parameters, get data, and record performance – without ever having to be on-site!
Temperature ranges :
• +10°C to +30°C
Ideal for :
• Areas with a large footprint / capacity – eg. a large open plan warehouse
• Areas that need a consistent ambient temperature
Benefits of Ambient Temperature Control
- Precise protection
Ambient temperature controlled systems can be designed to precise parameters, for example, they can maintain a temperature across a complete area to within +1/-1 degrees of the set temperature.
- Comfortable staff
Constant temperatures can improve productivity as well as keeping everyone pleasantly temperate.
- Stock is safe
Ambient temperature-controlled areas are ideal for even complex industries, like pharmaceutical storage, hydroponic/aeroponic indoor growing, and automotive/aeronautical storage.
Air Conditioning
Ideal for :
• Smaller spaces
• Office spaces
• Larger open packing rooms
Benefits of Air Conditioning
- Cheaper energy bills
To get the same effect as air conditioning, you’d need to run hundreds of fans constantly.
- Futureproofing
With temperatures rising across the world and an increasing number of UK heatwaves year on year, installing air conditioning means your business will be protected for years to come.
- Bespoke room sizes
Whether you need additional ventilation in a large open area or a system in your warehouse office area, MTCSS can design a solution for your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Refrigeration systems work by expanding and compressing the chosen refrigerant within a hermetic system, allowing the refrigerant to absorb the heat and expel it elsewhere within the system.
It’s a non-stop cycle that will continue forever, as long as it is fuelled adequately and the system is functioning optimally.
If your system isn’t running efficiently, why not consider cold room maintenance and repairs from MTCSS? Enquire today to find out more.
There are four main components of a refrigeration system: the compressor, the condenser, the expansion valve, and the evaporator.
- The compressor compresses the gas to raise the pressure and temperature of the gas.
- The condenser cools the gas and condenses the refrigerant into a liquid.
- The expansion valve rapidly reduces the pressure, turning the liquid back to a gas.
- The evaporator is positioned in the cold room or cabinet cools the refrigerant to absorb the heat within the room/cabinet.

What to consider when it comes to cooling systems and global warming
Environmental impact is a key consideration for businesses relying on refrigeration systems. But, what should you consider when selecting a system for your business?
- Global warming potential and ozone depletion potential of the refrigerant utilised
- F-gas and HCFC regulation adherence
- Longevity of your refrigeration systems and the refrigerants
Reducing environmental impact is at the forefront of this industry, but if you don’t adhere to the regulations, this can result in costly charges and penalties.
MTCSS take these factors into consideration when designing and installing your product, so you don’t have to – allowing you to invest in the right refrigeration system for your needs without concern.
MTCSS offers lighting solutions to integrate with cold room constructions and climate-controlled environments.

Bert De Mooij, Bespoke Chiller Cold Room for Q Flowers Ltd 2021
From coming into contact with MTCSS to the finished product, has been a great and easy process.
The members of the team listened to our wishes and offered us exactly what we needed. From picking the type of cooler machines, the doors, the lights - everything was exactly adjusted to our wishes.
Even though through the COVID period where availability of materials were challenging, the cold room was finished on the date as was planned when signing for the order.
Very professional company from start to finish.

Catherine Hester Fenwick, Ambient storage at Brabourne Wines 2021
‘Brabourne Wine is a small, family run vineyard in Kent. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a Conservation Area and with listed buildings, we needed to find a solution to store our wine without building afresh or making any material differences to the current buildings. MTCSS were amazingly flexible. They worked with us to develop a solution that fitted inside one of our outbuildings. Given the limitations on space and the requirement to have racking suitable for pallets, virtually everything about the project had to be bespoke but Darren never lost patience with the endless queries in the planning phase. Once on site, the team was professional, friendly, flexible and quick. They have delivered a solution which is perfect for our needs and exceeds our expectations. We are at the smaller end of their usual customer base, but we were never made to feel as though we were any less important than a major supermarket chain. We would certainly recommend them to anybody needing a controlled climate for storage (or any other reason)’

Dual Compartment Cold Room Installation, London
From the beginning I found Gem’s customer service fantastic, out of all of the companies we spoke to for quotes she was the most responsive and attentive. Even when we were still finalising and it wasn’t confirmed if we were proceeding with MTCSS yet, she was always great with keeping in contact to see if we needed anything, and very responsive with emails, and also phone calls.
Andy and Nathan, have been great throughout the entire process. Both have been on hand for any queries we have had and very responsive again to all forms of communication. Everything has been handled promptly and efficiently both before, during and after the build. Any questions we have had they have always gotten back to us with an answer very quickly.
The gentlemen who completed the install here on site, where very friendly and mindful of business operations while completing work. Each day they would check in with who was here in the morning to explain what they would be doing, what access they required, and asked if and how this might affect our operations or customers. Again, they were very clear and open with communication and was happy to help find solutions when we had issues with the shelving.
Overall our experience with you has been very good and we have been left a happy customer. I would also just like to say a thank you to yourself Gem, Nathan and Andy as you have all been very great throughout our customer journey!
