Why Is Maintaining Cold Room Doors Key?

If the cold room door or gasket perishes, the door won’t seal correctly – then the temperature will escape through the door. This can make the refrigeration equipment work a lot harder than it was designed for, subsequently costing more energy to power and run which can cause your energy builds to go up.

In freezer cold rooms and walk-in freezers – where the cold air escapes the room and meets the ambient air, it can cause ice  to form around the door frame. This can make your hinged or sliding cold room door difficult to open and close, which can lead to injury (eg. muscle strains and pulls) if your doors are being yanked open by staff members. The ice build up can also occur on the floor threshold which can lead to a potential slip hazard and causing injury.

If a cold room door handle breaks due to poor maintenance, there is potential that your employees could be trapped in the walk-in cold room – making it highly unsafe for operations and dangerous for employees, especially if an individual is trapped in a freezer cold room.
