The Importance of Cleanrooms
In the production and manufacturing of products that require a high level of control to avoid contamination it’s likely a cleanroom is used. From pharmaceutical to testing industries, cleanrooms are vital to the production of products which could be affected by air-borne contamination.
But why are cleanrooms so important to these industries and their processes? MTCSS are here to explain.
What are cleanrooms used for?
Cleanrooms are atmosphere-controlled rooms and environments that regulate temperature, humidity, airflow, filtration and pressure. Their ‘cleanliness’ is measured by the amount of particles in the air and cleanrooms must adhere to strict classifications and regulations. In the UK cleanrooms are classified by ISO 14644-1, but may also be required to comply with GMP. Find out more here!
They are used in a variety of industries, but are particularly common with pharmaceutical, medical, and testing industries. Why? Because these industries rely on high levels of control in their manufacturing and processes.
Cleanrooms limit the contamination of pollutants and maintain low levels of contaminants such as dust, vapours, microbes, fibres, particles, and other biological hazards. Different cleanrooms require different levels of clean air, dictated by their ISO classification.
Why cleanrooms are important?
Cleanrooms are extremely important in industries where the products processed or manufactured within the room can be contaminated by pollutants in the air. The controlled environment within cleanrooms is designed to protect against this contamination.
If you consider the pharmaceutical industry – manufacturing and producing medicines and pharmaceuticals – ensuring they know the correct and exact amounts of ingredients within the products is vital to providing a safe product that is fit for purpose.
In the case the air is contaminated with pollutants, then the products produced within the room could also be contaminated. In many high classified industries, this could be the difference between a safe and unsafe product.
Essentially, cleanrooms are important to manage pollutants in the air to enable the production of products which would otherwise be negatively affected by any airborne contamination.
Without cleanrooms, many industries would be unable to manufacture products safely for their intended use.
