If you’re looking to purchase a cold room, you probably know that there are a lot of things to consider – from floors and doors to shelving and lighting. But what about the ceiling in your cold room? It’s just as important to think about how your roof will affect cold room performance and heat retention. While modifying the entire building to insulate your cold space might be prohibitively expensive, there is another solution available from MTCSS – a suspended ceiling.
What Is A Suspended Ceiling?
The clue is in the name. A suspended ceiling is a wide platform made up of an insulated panelled grid system hung from a structural steel building frame. We would adopt this method for large cold rooms where the maximum unsupported ceilings lengths are exceeded, therefore meaning we would form banks of ceilings to form the overall footprint.
How Do Our Suspended Ceilings Work?
Ceiling-suspended, insulating panels are designed to hang from their frame on structural rolled steel joist (RSJ) supports. Clamps, threaded ‘roads’, and inverted, powder-coated top hat systems keep the structure firmly fixed in place, whilst continuing the thermal performance and efficiencies.
If RSJ’s aren’t an option, we’ll design a steel-structured frame to support the design internally. We’ll also base our plan around any apertures or gaps within the ceiling span. MTCSS will also add a suspension access system for maintenance, carefully distributing weight to protect the framework beneath.
Why Would My Cold Room Need A Suspended Ceiling?
Suspended ceilings are a great way to preserve energy, save money and time on building refits, and create useable temperature controlled storage spaces in warehouses and other buildings. Shrinking down any unnecessary roof space saves money and energy on condensing and cooling, too. If you’re refitting a high-vaulted space outdoors, a suspended ceiling can also be the only structurally-sound option to convert an open, uneven space into an enclosed fridge or freezer.
How Do MTCSS Guarantee Quality?
When it comes to building our bespoke cold rooms, MTCSS supply and install Kingspan Quadcore insulated panels, to Kingspan’s recommended specifications. Kingspan’s superb quality control and professionally rated materials ensure that the cold cannot escape.
