Replacement Walk-In Fridge Refrigeration Systems
Engineering and refrigeration systems are key to creating and maintaining the required conditions within cold rooms and temperature-controlled rooms. If the refrigeration systems within your cold rooms fail, there is a risk of damage or loss of the products stored due to incorrect temperatures. If there are signs your refrigeration systems are failing, replacing the existing systems will ensure your products are protected.
One of MTCSS’ customers recently required a like-for-like replacement of their existing refrigeration systems within their 21m x 18m x 5m chiller cold room (also referred to as walk-in fridges). The split refrigeration systems needed to be replaced due to their age and risk of unit failure.
The MTCSS team decommissioned and removed the existing refrigeration systems, disposing of them within legislation. To replace the refrigeration systems within the cold room, MTCSS supplied four condensing units and evaporators – selecting like-for-like systems as requested by our customer.
New Refrigeration Systems & Cold Room Engineering
MTCSS installed and commissioned the condensing and evaporators to maintain +4°C, with the products entering the cold room at +10°C, and a plant run time for 24 hours.
The four refrigeration systems were equally sized with equal duty – however the units were designed with extra duty. This ensured that in the event of a unit failure, the other units would be able to maintain the temperature required.
The MTCSS team supplied and installed all new pipework and interconnecting wiring for the refrigeration systems for the internal and external refrigeration units. The systems used refrigerant R449A, with a GWP of 1397, which adheres to F-gas legislation and offers longevity within the UK guidelines.
MTCSS also carried out works to the cold room doors, aligning the sliding cold rooms to allow for easy opening and optimal sealing.

From the beginning I found Gem’s customer service fantastic, out of all of the companies we spoke to for quotes she was the most responsive and attentive. Even when we were still finalising and it wasn’t confirmed if we were proceeding with MTCSS yet, she was always great with keeping in contact to see if we needed anything, and very responsive with emails, and also phone calls.
Andy and Nathan, have been great throughout the entire process. Both have been on hand for any queries we have had and very responsive again to all forms of communication. The gentlemen who completed the install here on site, where very friendly and mindful of business operations while completing work. Each day they would check in with who was here in the morning to explain what they would be doing, what access they required, and asked if and how this might affect our operations or customers. Again, they were very clear and open with communication and was happy to help find solutions when we had issues with the shelving.
